Protecting what the founder had built.
The company had grown from a single truck into a trusted residential and commercial irrigation provider with a loyal customer base and long-serving crews. The founder was ready to step back, but was clear about his priorities: his team had to be looked after, the name had to carry on, and he wanted a partner with the resources to keep growing the business.
Presenting a service business on its strengths.
We began by normalising the financials and separating recurring service and maintenance revenue from one-off installation work, so buyers could see how much of the business repeated year after year. We prepared a blind teaser and a confidential information memorandum, then approached a focused group of strategic and private equity buyers under NDA. Competing interest let the owner compare offers on price, structure and fit — not just the headline number.
A buyer chosen for fit as well as value.
The owner selected a private equity buyer whose plans centred on keeping the crews in place and investing in the business. His transition role was agreed before signing, and we worked alongside his attorney and accountant through diligence to closing.
I wanted to know my people would be taken care of. Masswell found a buyer who shared that priority, and made a complicated process feel manageable.
